Uncoated and Newly Milled Timber
The preparation of new timber is important!
New timber that's used for decking or other exterior architectural features needs optimum preparation prior to coating.
Timber has natural tannins, oils and resins which will affect how the penetrating oil works. For best results remove mill dust and as much tannin as possible before you coat with oil.
NEW TIMBER PREPARATION GUIDE
- If you have installed a tannin rich timber, such as merbau, it's best to let it sit uncoated for a week or two prior to treating. This will allow some of the tannins to leach out of the timber naturally.
- Extract further tannins from the timber using Equisol Prime. Prime removes ingrained oils and dirt, and opens up the wood pores to maximise absorption of penetrating oils.
- Wash the deck with Equisol Vitalise.
- Coat the deck with Equisol ProE360 plus your chosen colour tone making sure to coat all cut edges as well as the surface side. You will need two coats of the ProE360. Follow manufacturers instructions.
