Recoating Exterior Timber
Restoring and rejuvenating a weathered or dirty deck with Equisol.
Avoid the pitfalls with this handy guide to getting your deck looking great again!
STEPS TO ACHIEVE A RENEWED DECK
- Determine if the timber has a film coating on it. This will be like a thin layer of sitting on the top of the surface. If it is weathering badly, it may appear glazed or even starting to peel in places. All varnishes and waterbased products such as Aquadeck will create a film. A penetrating oil cannot penetrate if there is film on the timber - so for an even distribution of oil, you will need to completely remove the previous film coating.
- Remove film with Equisol Strip. Strip is a professional strength product, so take care with your personal protection (gloves, mask etc). Do not be tempted to wash it off prior to the recommended time.
- Once you have removed all previous coatings, clean the timber with Equisol Prime. Prime will remove ingrained stains and dirt.
- Wait for the timber to dry and if the timber surface feels rough to the touch, with possible splintering, sand the deck and then wash it again with Equisol Vitalise.
- Once deck is clean and dry, coat twice with Equisol Pro E365 and your choice of colour tone.
